Suicide Prevention Podcast

By Listening to This You Might Save Someone’s Life

With World Suicide Prevention Day approaching on September 10th we decided to give you an exclusive preview of one of the episodes from our new podcast series which is launching in October.

Taking an in-depth look at suicide and suicide prevention, host Gabby talks to world leader on suicide research and prevention and author of ‘When It is Darkest, Why People Die by Suicide and What We Can Do to Prevent It’ Professor Rory O Connor. Rory is the President of the International Association for Suicide Prevention, a Professor of Health Psychology and leads the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory at the University of Glasgow.

Gabby also chats with Alice Hendy, CEO and founder of R;pple to learn about the new online plugin that intercepts anyone from looking at harmful online content steering them towards the right professional help. Heartbreakingly Alice lost her own brother Josh to suicide less than a year ago and created R;pple after discovering the dangerous information Josh had access to online.

One person dies by suicide every 40 seconds and data suggests for every suicide, there are 20 attempts taken. Gabby says “This is not an easy conversation to have, but it’s a really important one. Rory O’Connor has studied the suicidal mind for the last 25 years and as he pointed out to me during our chat ‘there is no face to a suicidal person’. By taking the time to listen to this episode, you might learn something that one day could help save someone’s life.”
