Anxiety: 5 ways to manage your anxiety in 2019
Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues in the world. It’s that feeling you get when you are worried, tense or afraid about things that are happening around us, or even things that could happen in the future. It’s a natural human response, and most people feel anxious from time to time.
How do we know if our anxiety is becoming a problem?
If your anxiety starts to interfere with your daily life and relationships, becoming more than just “feeling anxious”, then you could be dealing with an anxiety disorder.
At this point, it would be wise to seek a medical diagnosis, but it’s also possible to experience problems with anxiety without having a specific diagnosed condition.
What can I do to manage my anxiety on a daily basis?
Living with anxiety can be extremely difficult, but there are things that you can do to manage these feelings:
1. You can’t control everything, and that’s ok
It is difficult to stop worrying when you are anxious, but try to put it in perspective. If you try to control everything that happens to you, you won’t have enough time to enjoy things.
2. Limit the amount of caffeine you have each day
Having too much of anything is not good for you, but too much caffeine can aggravate your anxiety, and even trigger panic attacks. Have a little H2O instead!
3. Try to maintain a well-balanced diet
It almost goes without saying at this point, but you are what you eat. Maintaining a well-balanced diet can improve both your physical and mental health. Don’t skip any meals, keep them healthy, and don’t be too harsh on yourself if you want a treat; that’s what balance is all about!
Everything is going to be ok, just remember to breathe. There are plenty of breathing exercises out there that can help you relax and feel more in control!
5. Take a little time out
Go for a walk, listen to music, read a book, take a bath, meditate – however you find a little peace and quiet, do it. Taking a break from your problems will help you clear your head and put things into perspective.
